WMRHS Freshmen Build Friendships and Confidence at Copper Cannon Camp
By Staff Reporter
WHITE MOUNTAINS – The ninth-grade class at White Mountains Regional High School traded their classrooms for cabins last week as they embarked on a team-building adventure at Copper Cannon Camp. The overnight trip, designed to help students connect with their peers and develop leadership skills, was a resounding success.
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of activities, including tight ropes challenges, problem-solving games, and trust exercises. The camp’s experienced staff guided students through each activity, encouraging them to communicate, collaborate, and support one another.
This year’s trip was the first overnight excursion in several years and is such an important part of the transition to high school. Spartan freshmen join the high school from our two middle schools, and this experience gives them a chance to build friendships and feel more comfortable as part of the WMRHS community.
Students also had time to enjoy the natural beauty of Copper Cannon Camp, with a hike to the river, an archery range, and time for informal socializing at the brand new pickleball pavilion. Many students reported that the trip helped them feel more confident about the school year ahead and made connections with staff and peers.
The team-building day is part of WMRHS’s broader effort to support students’ collaboration and team/leadership skills. School leaders hope the bonds formed at Copper Cannon will last throughout the students’ high school careers.
